Mythic Uniques: every route, and what each one costs

Season 14 stopped treating Mythic as a rarity and started treating it as something you do to a Unique you already own. That sounds like a small wording change. It rewrites the whole endgame gearing plan, and it introduces one restriction that catches almost everybody out.

Last checked against current sources on 13 August 2026, after patch 3.1.1.

Mythic is a quality now, not a rarity

Before Season 14, a Mythic Unique was its own item at the top of the rarity ladder, and there were a fixed handful of them. Under Mythic Uniques 3.0, Mythic is a quality that can be applied to any Unique in the game. The Unique you are already wearing has a Mythic version, and getting it is now a question of finding the right conversion rather than praying to a separate loot table.

What the conversion actually does to an item is consistent no matter which route produced it:

  • The item is always Ancestral.
  • Its Unique Power is increased by 30%.
  • Its other affixes roll at maximum values, so there is no such thing as a badly rolled Mythic.
  • Two affixes are preserved to keep the item recognisably itself.

That last point is why the change matters more than a numbers buff would. A Mythic is not a lottery ticket you hope rolls well. It is a finished item. The decision moves entirely to which Unique you point the conversion at, and how many conversions you can afford.

You can only equip one crafted Mythic

This is the rule to internalise before you spend anything. A Mythic you made yourself carries a Crafted tag, and you can only have one crafted Mythic equipped at a time. Mythics that dropped for you, or that came out of a cache, carry no such tag, and you can wear as many of those as you can find.

So crafting is not a route to a full set of Mythics. It is a route to exactly one guaranteed slot, and everything beyond that first one has to come from drops. Plan the crafted one for the slot where a Mythic changes your build the most and where you are least likely to get lucky, and treat every additional Mythic as something you farm rather than buy.

Worth watching The Crafted tag has been a live complaint since launch, and it was reported before patch 3.1.1 that Blizzard might remove it from vendor crafted Mythics. As of 3.1.1 that has not happened, and changes of this kind have historically not been retroactive to items already made. If you are sitting on Resplendent Sparks with no urgent need, there is a real argument for waiting.

Four ways to end up with one

Costs below are current as of patch 3.1.1. The Horadric Cube figure in particular moved at 3.1.1, so any guide still saying five fragments, including this site's own Ledger until today, is out of date.

The four acquisition routes, what each costs, and how much control you get over the result.
RouteCostWhat you getCrafted tag
It drops Nothing but time Any Unique in the game can drop as a Mythic. No control at all, but no tag either. No
Horadric Cube upgrade 4 Pandemonium Fragments, plus one Unique of item level 850 or higher in the slot you want A random Mythic from that slot's category. Feed it boots, get Mythic boots. One handed weapons, offhands and shields count as one shared category. Yes
Slot targeted vendor craft 3 Resplendent Sparks, nine specific runes in three sets of three, and 5,000,000 gold A random Mythic of the slot whose recipe you used. Cannot produce Iconic Mythics. Yes
Mythic Unique Cache 2 Resplendent Sparks and 50,000,000 gold A random Iconic Mythic, the named old guard: Harlequin Crest, The Grandfather and company. El'Druin, Sword of Justice was added to this pool in 3.1.1. Yes
One detail I could not pin down Sources disagree about which vendor hosts which of the two Spark recipes. The 3.1.1 patch notes place the Mythic Unique Cache at the Blacksmith, which is the strongest evidence available, while at least one major guide site lists the two the other way round. The costs above are consistent across sources; only the counter they sit on is disputed. Check both vendors rather than trusting either arrangement, and if you find out for certain, tell me.

Where Pandemonium Fragments actually come from

The Cube route is the seasonal route, and Pandemonium Fragments are the seasonal currency that feeds it. Four sources, in rough order of how reliable they are per hour:

Four Fragments per attempt, up to two per Reaper kill, and a guaranteed one per repeatable reputation turn in: that is the arithmetic of the season. Two clean Reaper kills plus a reputation reward is a Cube attempt. It is worth knowing that number before you decide whether a given evening is a Mythic evening or not.

What 3.1.1 changed, and why it matters if you read older guides

Patch 3.1.1 landed on 14 July 2026 and was largely a Mythic accessibility patch. Anything written about Season 14 before that date should be read with these in mind:

  • The Cube's Upgrade to Mythic recipe went from 5 Fragments to 4.
  • The Corrupted Reaper now drops up to two Fragments, scaling with Torment.
  • The repeatable Glints of Hope reputation reward now guarantees a Fragment.
  • Naturally dropped Mythics roll as Iconic Mythics more often.
  • A bug that stopped several sources of Uniques, including Lair Bosses, from dropping Mythics at all was fixed. If you farmed Lair Bosses for Mythics early in the season and concluded they were a bad source, that conclusion was correct at the time and is not any more.

If you only do one thing

Spend Fragments through the Cube, not Sparks through a vendor, unless you specifically want an Iconic. Fragments are seasonal income you can farm on purpose. Sparks are not, and the Crafted tag means the expensive Spark route buys you the same single equipped slot the cheap Fragment route does.

Pick the slot before you have the currency, because the Cube gives you a random Mythic from whatever slot you feed it, and feeding it a slot your build does not care about is how a season's worth of Fragments turns into a stash decoration. Then farm the Rupture and Corrupted Reaper loop where both Fragments and Glints of Hope come from the same sessions, and keep your Torment tier honest.

Everything above is a decision you make once and then execute for weeks, which is exactly the kind of thing that falls out of your head by Thursday. The Season 14 Farming Ledger keeps the list of them ticked off.
